Fiat Chrysler to Sell Cars Online with Amazon
The days of driving down to the dealership may never go away, but recent partnerships, like Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Amazon, may make it less common.
The automaker recently joined forces with the online retailer to begin selling cars online with additional discounts. In its earliest stages, only Italian buyers will have the ability to use the service, and they choose from one of three models: the Fiat 500, the Fiat Panda and the Fiat 500L.
Fitting the Audience
According to Reuters, the Panda is Italy’s best selling car, and the 500 and 500L capture the young, adventurous audience that would be willing to test the waters of online car shopping. All in all, it’s lined up to be a good fit.
“The time has arrived to give consumers a new, more efficient and transparent way to choose a new vehicle,” said Gianluca Italia for Fiat Chrysler’s Italian division.
Italia says that existing promotions would be improved by up to 33 percent for online customers, making it affordable and convenient for buyers, a model that has led Amazon to great success. Reuters states that half of Italia’s surveyed buyers would be willing to purchase a Fiat online, but 97 percent of them still preferred to pick it up at a traditional dealer. Those buyers would be able to finalize their purchase and pick up their vehicle within two weeks from a dealer after beginning the process through Amazon, making it the best of both worlds.
If the partnership becomes a success in Italy, it’s possible that the FCA may begin rolling out similar practices here in North America. But until that time, those of us here at Pilson Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Ram look forward to personally greeting and facilitating the process for our buyers, and we invite you to visit our dealership to browse our wide selection of new and used vehicles, including the 2017 Fiat 500 with a pop hatch.
